Red wines
Red wine is made from blue grapes. After the grapes are crushed, the grape juice ferments into wine along with the skins, stems, and seeds. The natural red pigment is found in the skin.
The color of red wine is always red, but the color can range from almost black/purple to orange/brown. The color intensity can also vary greatly. Red wines from cooler regions, such as New Zealand and Germany, are often more transparent than red wines from warmer regions.
The most commonly planted grape varieties for making red wines are: Grenache and Carignan, the most well-known are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Pinot Noir.
