The Geografico Pavonero Rosso is a very special wine. It's a so-called non-vintage wine and is effectively a blend of 2 vintages, hence no vintage year. Additionally, the wine is also a blend of 4 grapes (Nero d'Avola, Primitivo, Montepulciano, and Merlot) that come from four different regions in Italy: Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo, and Trentino. The vinification takes place in Tuscany.

The result is a powerful, dark red wine with an intense nose featuring notes of ripe cherries, candied plums, mocha, and tobacco, and a robust flavor with a sensual, round mouthfeel. 20% of the wine matures for no less than 12 months in new French oak barrels. The other 80% matures in stainless steel. This beautifully explains the combination of ripe dark fruit, mocha, and tobacco with soft tannins.

The company 'Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico' was founded in 1961. It was a cooperative that has since been acquired by Piccini. At Geografico, every vineyard that comes under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They provide advice on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. They then assist the owner with the setup of the vineyard and constantly with vineyard management. A skilled winemaking team makes the wine.

The fun story behind this wine is that it actually tries to capture all of Italy in one bottle. The blend combines Nero d'Avola from Sicily, Primitivo from Puglia, Montepulciano from Abruzzo, and Merlot from Trentino. Four grapes from four different Italian regions.
