Kaiken – Argentine winery with Chilean roots

Kaiken is an Argentine winery known for characteristic wines from Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The winery was founded by Aurelio Montes, one of the founders of the Chilean winery Montes. The name Kaiken refers to the wild Andean goose that flies over the Andes between Chile and Argentina. A fitting name for a winery that connects both countries.

Kaiken makes wines with a strong focus on the Argentine terroir. Mendoza plays an important role, with vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, among others. The high altitude, dry climate, and cool nights result in grapes with great concentration, aroma, and fresh acidity.

Winemaking in Mendoza

Kaiken's vineyards are located at different altitudes in Mendoza. Malbec, in particular, is an important grape for Kaiken. In addition, the winery works with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, among others. By using grapes from different parts of Mendoza, Kaiken can optimally utilize the character of the different terroirs.

The Andes play an important role in the character of the wines. The mountains protect Mendoza from moist air from Chile and contribute to the region's dry climate. Moreover, meltwater from the Andes provides irrigation for the vineyards.
