The Douro is one of the oldest officially demarcated wine regions in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The steep terraced vineyards along the Douro River form one of Europe's most impressive wine landscapes.

The region is world-renowned for Port, but nowadays also produces excellent dry red and white wines. Grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Francisca result in powerful, concentrated wines with plenty of ripe fruit, spices, and excellent aging potential.

At Vechtstreek Wijnen, you will find wines from Real Companhia Velha, one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in the Douro, among others.
