Tasting note Covila II Rioja Reserva
Spicy nose with notes of vanilla, clove, baking spices, blackberries, and stewed fruit. Firm, ripe tannin structure, dark fruit, and notes of leather and spices. Full finish and a very dark red color. In short, a powerful and sensational Spaniard.
Wine & Food
This Covila Rioja Reserva is classically paired with an oven-roasted leg of lamb. Freshly seasoned. Prefer something else? Consider other grilled (red) meat, a beef or game stew with mushrooms, a nice pheasant, a cheese platter, or Spanish hams.
Additional information
This Rioja matures for 24 months in American oak barrels and then for another 12 months in the bottle. Made from 100% Tempranillo grapes. It is recommended to decant this Rioja in advance.
The wine comes from Alavesa in the north of the Rioja in Spain. This is also the smallest area in the Rioja, but it guarantees fruit of very good quality. In the north, there is the sheltered position of the Cantabrian Mountains, and in the south, the Ebro River. The orientation of the vineyards in relation to the sun is ideal, and the Tempranillo grape thrives here on clay and limestone soil.
