Rosé Wines

Rosé is almost always made from blue grapes. The wine gets its somewhat modest color because the skins of the blue grapes remain with the juice (must) for a shorter period than when making red wine.

The skins soak for a few hours during fermentation with the white pulp from the blue grapes. If you let the skins soak for a long time, the rosé will become darker. If you leave the skins with the must for only a few hours, the rosé will be much lighter in color.

Tip: Unlike red wine, don't let rosé sit on the shelf for years. In fact, it is not advisable to drink (and buy!) bottles that are more than two or three years old. Enjoy your favorite rosé not only in the summer but also with a salad or a nice appetizer.
