Tasting Notes Château Montviel Pomerol
Beautiful, mature nose with lots of fruit (blackcurrant), cedar, tobacco, cocoa, leather, and a hint of smokiness. On the palate, a soft, creamy attack and a wonderful balance of concentration, integrated acidity, and beautifully mellowed tannins. This harmony lingers on the finish for a very long time. Ruby red with a brown rim.
Wine & Food
Château Montviel pairs very well with beef stew or venison or a good piece of oven-roasted meat.
Other information
Château Montviel is a very great Pomerol in the making, very charming and elegant with a deep and almost black color. Scented with very ripe fruit, wood, and toast, and even notes of truffle.
The Château was purchased in 1985 by Mrs. Catherine Péré-Vergé. She made significant investments and restructurings to bring the cru to a very high level. After her passing in 2013, her son, Henri Parent, now manages the estates (including Château Le Gay and Château La Violette).
Vinification at the Château is done entirely in barriques (small 225l barrels). This is very labor-intensive but possible given the small area. Yields were low at 40hl/ha in 2019, a guarantee of concentration!
