District 7 is located in Monterey County, one of California's coolest wine regions, where the influence of the ocean ensures a slow, even ripening of the grapes. All grapes are Estate Grown, originating from their own vineyards, guaranteeing consistency and quality. The wine is partly aged in French oak barrels to add depth and complexity without overpowering the delicate fruit. The result is a Pinot Noir with refined elegance and striking purity.
In 1972, Al Scheid first planted vineyards in what was then undeveloped and unknown Monterey County. What started as a grape growing operation that sold 100% of its production to other wineries has now grown into an absolute "premium player in the winefield"!
The Monterey region, approved as an official AVA in 1984, is one of the leading bastions of viticulture with its distinctive cool climate and home to some of California's most amazing and sought-after Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. With the chilly Monterey Bay at the top of the valley and two mountain ranges on either side, the Monterey AVA is characterized by morning fog, strong winds, cool temperatures, and abundant afternoon sunshine.
