Vicente Gandía – Spanish wine with roots in Valencia

Bodegas Vicente Gandía is a family business from the Spanish region of Valencia, founded in 1885. The fourth generation of the Gandía family is now at the helm. From Valencia, the company grew into an international wine producer with wines from various Spanish wine regions.

A significant step in its history came in 1971, when Vicente Gandía was the first winery in Valencia to bottle wine under its own brand. The well-known Castillo de Liria thus became one of the house's first major brands.

Hoya de Cadenas – the heart of Utiel-Requena

Since 1990, Vicente Gandía has owned Finca Hoya de Cadenas near Las Cuevas de Utiel, in the heart of the DO Utiel-Requena. In 2001, a modern winery was built here, directly amidst the vineyards.

Utiel-Requena is located inland in the province of Valencia and has a relatively high-altitude, continental climate. Warm days are alternated with cool nights, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining their freshness.

Bobal – the pride of Valencia

One of the most important grape varieties for Vicente Gandía is Bobal. This red grape is indigenous to Utiel-Requena and forms an important part of the area's identity. According to the DO Utiel-Requena, Bobal covers approximately 70% of the appellation's vineyard area.

Bobal is known for its dark fruit, spiciness, fresh acidity, and firm yet ripe structure. The grape can produce both fruity, accessible wines and powerful, complex wines.

Vicente Gandía uses Bobal for, among other things, monovarietal wines with which the winery explicitly puts the local grape in the spotlight.

More than just Valencia

Although Valencia and Utiel-Requena form an important base, Vicente Gandía now makes wine in nine different Spanish appellations. The portfolio includes Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rías Baixas, Rueda, Alicante, and Priorat, among others.

As a result, Vicente Gandía is actually a good representative of the diversity of Spanish viticulture. From fresh white wines from Rías Baixas and Rueda to powerful red wines from Rioja and Utiel-Requena.

Family business with international ambitions

What started as a family business in Valencia has now grown into a producer that exports its wines to approximately 90 countries. Yet the Gandía family is still involved in the company.

The combination of traditional Spanish grape varieties, modern wine technology, and knowledge of different Spanish wine regions forms the basis of Vicente Gandía's current style.
