Torre del Falasco – wines from the heart of Veneto

Torre del Falasco is an Italian wine brand from Cantina Valpantena, a cooperative wine producer from the Verona area in Veneto. The cooperative was founded by local winemakers and now has hundreds of affiliated winegrowers. Together, they manage vineyards in the hilly areas around Verona.

The name Torre del Falasco refers to a historic tower in the Valpantena, a valley northeast of Verona. The medieval tower dates from the 12th century and has a turbulent history. The name is linked to Francesco Falasco, a farmer from Valpantena who later became a soldier.

Valpantena and Verona

The Valpantena is one of the valleys around Verona and is part of the famous Veneto wine region. The area is best known for red wines such as Valpolicella, Ripasso and Amarone.

The vineyards are located at different altitudes and benefit from their location between the hills and the foothills of the Dolomites. The combination of sunny days and cooling air currents helps the grapes ripen beautifully while maintaining freshness.

Traditional grape varieties

For the red wines of Torre del Falasco, the traditional grape varieties of Valpolicella are particularly important. Corvina forms the base, often supplemented with Corvinone and Rondinella.

Corvina provides the characteristic cherry fruit and fresh structure that is so typical of Valpolicella. Corvinone contributes to color and concentration, while Rondinella can provide extra fruit and structure.

For white wines, Torre del Falasco also works with grape varieties typical of Veneto, such as Garganega for Soave.

From Valpolicella to Amarone

Torre del Falasco makes various well-known styles from Veneto. The Valpolicella is usually smooth, fruity and elegant, with notes of cherries and plums. The Ripasso is fuller and more powerful and gains extra depth through a second fermentation on the Amarone skins.

At the top of the range is the Amarone della Valpolicella, a powerful wine with concentrated fruit, soft tannins and often notes of ripe cherries and chocolate.

Cantina Valpantena

Behind Torre del Falasco is Cantina Valpantena, a cooperative in which local winemakers jointly process their grapes. The cooperative now comprises approximately 700–750 hectares of vineyards, depending on the source and the time of measurement. This makes Cantina Valpantena one of the larger wine producers in the region.

The strength of a cooperative is that knowledge, vineyards and modern wine technology are brought together. This allows for a wide range to be produced, while preserving the typical characteristics of the different areas around Verona.

Fun fact 🏰

The Torre del Falasco has existed since the 12th century. The historic tower is located near Grezzana in Valpantena and was originally a defensive structure. The name of the wine brand is therefore directly linked to a real piece of history from the wine region.
