Les Bertholets – characterful wines from the Languedoc

Les Bertholets is a wine brand from the Languedoc in Southern France, known for its excellent value for money. The wines are made under the direction of winemaker Paul Albert, in collaboration with viticulturists and the Caves de Languedoc cooperative. The result is a broad series of accessible wines in which the sunny character of Southern France beautifully comes to the fore.

Les Bertholets does not focus on complex wine stories, but on something perhaps even more important: good wine at an attractive price. They work with carefully selected grapes from various vineyards in the Languedoc. Modern winemaking techniques are combined with the knowledge and experience of local viticulture.

The Languedoc as a wine region

The Languedoc is one of France's largest and most versatile wine regions. The Mediterranean climate provides plenty of sunshine and warm, dry conditions, while the influence of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding hills provides the necessary cooling.

Various soil types are found in the vineyards, including calcareous and gravelly soils. This variation makes it possible to cultivate a wide range of grape varieties.

Many different grape varieties

One of Les Bertholets' strengths is the great variety in its assortment. Both international and Mediterranean grape varieties are used.

The range includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Vermentino, Colombard, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Merlot, and Marselan. This means Les Bertholets offers a suitable style for almost every wine lover.

The Grande Réserve series showcases different facets of the winery. For example, the Chardonnay provides a full, creamy style, while the GSM blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre yields a powerful, fruity red wine.

Quality at an attractive price

Les Bertholets has developed into a popular name in the Dutch wine trade. Its strength lies primarily in the combination of consistent quality, accessibility, and an attractive price.

This makes the wines suitable for daily enjoyment, as well as for a cozy drink or dinner. The style is recognizable and accessible, without the wines losing their Southern French character.

Fun fact

Les Bertholets was a kind of secret winery for many years. A Dutch wine merchant stated in 2025 that, at the importer's request, the winery was not even allowed to be mentioned by name on the internet for about three years. Fortunately, the secret can now be revealed: Les Bertholets!
