Calusari – surprisingly good wine from Romania

Calusari is a wine collection from Cramele Recaș, one of the most important and modern wine producers in Romania. From the Timiș region in the west of the country, Cramele Recaș produces a wide range of wines known for their excellent value for money.

Cramele Recaș has developed into a large and modern wine producer over the past decades. The company is led by Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira and is now one of the largest exporters of Romanian wine.

Romanian wine with a modern style

Romania has an ancient wine tradition, but Calusari wines are clearly aimed at the modern wine lover. The emphasis is on fruit, accessibility, and drinking pleasure, without the wines losing their character.

Cramele Recaș combines traditional knowledge with modern winemaking technology. The vineyards consist of both older and newer plantings, and there is continuous investment in improving vineyards and winemaking.

The Calusari series features several well-known international grape varieties, including Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. This makes the series widely accessible for wine lovers who want to discover Romanian wine.

Wine from the Timiș region

Calusari wines come from the Timiș region, in western Romania. The vineyards are located in an area where the climate is suitable for both white and red grape varieties.

The combination of sun, soil, and sufficient cooling results in grapes with ripe fruit and a good balance between freshness and structure.

Cramele Recaș also has a very modern winery and works with experienced winemakers and international expertise to maintain consistent quality year after year.

Excellent value for money

Calusari clearly shows that you can discover a surprisingly good wine from a less obvious wine country for an attractive price.

Precisely because Romania is still less known internationally as a wine country than France, Italy, or Spain, the wines often offer an interesting balance between price, quality, and originality.

Fun fact

The name Calusari refers to the Călușari, traditional Romanian dancers who are part of an ancient folklore tradition. The dance is often performed by groups of men and is known for its spectacular movements and acrobatic jumps. The name thus gives the wine series a typical Romanian character.
