Thanks to its favorable climate and good location, they have been producing quality wines for years. However, the country also experienced a dip in quality during the communist era. Quantity took precedence over quality. Fortunately, Romania is currently once again among the ten largest wine producers in the world.

The wine industry in Romania received a boost in the 18th century from Germans who emigrated from Bavaria to this part of Romania (Transylvania). They brought new technology and work ethic that still forms the basis of Cramele Recas' success today.

The vineyards, covering 600 hectares, were replanted at the beginning of the 21st century with the best quality grapevines. The vinification facilities are modern and efficient, and the winemaking team is led by Hartley Smithers (Australia) and Nora Iriate (Spain). As a result, the wines of Calusari (Cramele Recas) are renowned worldwide for their excellent price-quality ratio!
