Tasting Note Kaiken MAI Malbec
Kaiken MAI Malbec is the absolute top wine made by this Argentinian winery. On the nose, Kaiken MAI Malbec offers intense aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums, along with subtle hints of spices, cocoa, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, this wine reveals itself as a full-bodied and powerful Malbec with velvety tannins. Flavorful tastes of black fruit, such as blackberries and cassis, are complemented by notes of spices, oak, and a touch of dark chocolate. The wine has a long and elegant finish.
Wine & Food
Kaiken MAI Malbec is an excellent accompaniment to grilled red meat, lamb chops from the Big Green Egg, stews, game dishes, and hard cheeses. It is a wine that can easily be aged for several years to further develop its complexity.
Additional Information
The symbol of Kaiken Wines is a species of goose called: Cauquén (the grey-headed goose), which is common in Patagonia and regularly crosses between Argentina and Chile. Aurelio Montes regularly made the same flight and saw the geese flying back and forth. During one of these flights, the name of the winery was born. How fitting!
The MAI is made with grapes from the vineyards of Vistalba (Mendoza). This area is one of the oldest local vineyards and is considered one of Argentina's best terroirs for high-quality premium wines. The vineyard is over 100 years old. Yields are naturally low and produce highly concentrated grapes.
This MAI Malbec has been aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The wine then ages for at least 24 months in the bottle before it is released for sale. The name MAI comes from the Peheunce Indians who historically lived here and means "first."
