Tasting note Algazarra Douro red
The Algazarra Douro red has a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals ripe aromas of dark red fruit such as blackberries and cherries, complemented by subtle spicy notes and a hint of cocoa. On the palate, the wine is smooth and full-bodied, with soft tannins, a pleasant freshness, and a round, approachable finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
Algazarra Douro Red is extremely versatile. This red wine (possibly lightly chilled in summer) pairs excellently with grilled meats, stews, pastas with rich sauces, and dishes with spicy accents. But also try an authentic and wintry Feijoada dish or a stew with beans, pork, and sausage.
Additional information
Casa Santos de Lima is celebrating its Algazarra party this time in the Douro, one of Portugal's most iconic wine regions. Here, they collaborate with local partners and vineyards to capture the terroir essence of the Douro in an accessible, modern wine. Local heroes Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, and Sousão are thick friends here. However, the soft slate terroir immediately reveals a very different style of wine than, for example, in Alentejo.
More red fruit-focused with a clear structure. Elegant and more minerality. 9 months in French oak provides the necessary roundness and creaminess. It offers the structure and breadth of Douro wines but remains friendly and immediately drinkable.
Behind the Algazarra line is Casa Santos Lima, a leading family business that has been active since the late 19th century. Under the leadership of fourth-generation José Luís Santos Lima, the winery has grown into one of Portugal's most awarded producers. Casa Santos Lima owns approximately 400 hectares of vineyards around Alenquer and in several other Portuguese regions. Through their combination of modern winemaking techniques, tradition, and consistent quality, they have built a strong worldwide reputation.
