Tasting Notes Quinta dos Murças Reserva
This complex and powerful Quinta dos Murças Reserva is a premium wine from the Douro valley. With ripe dark fruit (cassis) and balsamic on the nose. Also some spices, due to oak aging. The taste is powerful with a beautifully developed tannin structure. Nicely soft. Again with blackcurrants and spiciness. The finish is elegant and persistent. Intense dark red in color.
Wine & Food
Due to its powerful character, this Reserva from Quinta dos Murças is above all a food wine. In Portuguese style with ‘coelho em vinho’, rabbit prepared in wine, or with ‘cabrito assado’, a whole roasted kid goat smeared with herbs. Alternatives from other countries include: a vegetarian stew with mushrooms, boeuf bourguignon or a Greek lamb casserole.
Other information
In the heart of the prestigious Douro region, we find Quinta dos Murças. A historic place where the first vineyard was planted in 1947. Quinta dos Murças is known for its mountains, abundant sunshine, and slate soils.
After the great success of the winery Esporāo, the winery was looking to expand. And soon they came across Quinta dos Murças. Here they found the right terroir to produce elegant wines. The great diversity of soils means that both white and red wines can be produced here.
The grapes come from the winery's oldest vineyards. At an altitude of 150 to 280 meters, the grapes enjoy a perfect climate. This results in wines with great elegance. At optimal ripeness, the grapes are harvested manually and immediately brought to the winery. This is followed by a strict selection, after which the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature. Finally, the Reserva wine ages for another 12 months in French oak barrels.
This wine is best served at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
