Zuccardi

Zuccardi Valle de Uco is one of Argentina's leading wineries. The family business was started in 1963 by Alberto "Tito" Zuccardi, who planted a vineyard in Mendoza to demonstrate an irrigation system he had developed himself. What began as a technical experiment grew into a family business that is now run by three generations of Zuccardi.

The third generation, Sebastián Zuccardi, plays an important role in the winery's current direction. His vision is clear: not simply to make the perfect wine, but above all wines that show the place they come from as purely as possible. Since 2008, Zuccardi has therefore had its own research and development team that focuses intensively on the soils, climate and different terroirs of the Valle de Uco.

Wines from the Andes

Zuccardi's vineyards are mainly located in the Valle de Uco, at the foot of the Andes. The combination of high altitude, abundant sunshine, cool nights and often calcareous and stony soils creates ideal conditions for making fresh, concentrated and elegant wines. Zuccardi themselves refer to them as "mountain wines".

What makes Zuccardi special is the enormous attention to terroir. The family works with different areas such as Paraje Altamira, Gualtallary, San Pablo and Tupungato. Each area has its own soil, altitude and climate and thus its own influence on the wine.

Polígonos

A good example of this is the Polígonos series. These wines are made to showcase the identity of different villages and areas in the Valle de Uco. For example, you can taste the same grape from Gualtallary and Altamira side by side and discover how great the difference in terroir can be.

This makes the Polígonos wines particularly interesting for wine lovers who want to look beyond just the grape variety.

An impressive international reputation

Zuccardi now belongs to the absolute world elite. In 2022, the winery was the first and only Argentine winery to have three wines with 100 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate. In the same year, Zuccardi was named New World Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.

World's Best Vineyards also ranked Zuccardi number one as the best vineyard in the world for three consecutive years (2019, 2020 and 2021). In 2022, the winery was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Fun fact: Zuccardi's first vineyard was planted in 1963 not because Alberto Zuccardi wanted to make wine, but to demonstrate his new irrigation system. Only then did he discover his great passion for viticulture. Now, the third generation is at the helm, and at Zuccardi, everything revolves around discovering and expressing the terroir of the Andes.

The winery

The modern winery in the Valle de Uco is also special. The Zuccardi Valle de Uco winery opened in 2016 and was designed entirely as a tribute to the Andes. Only natural materials from the surroundings were used in its construction, including stone, sand and water.

The philosophy behind the building thus perfectly aligns with the wines: nature and the landscape are central.
