Tasting Note Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita
In the glass, this iconic Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita shows a deep, inky color with purple highlights. The nose is intense and refined, with aromas of blackcurrant, violets, graphite, wet stone, and subtle notes of cocoa and spices.
On the palate, the wine is powerful yet incredibly precise: pure fruit, firm but silky tannins, and an impressive freshness give it an almost Burgundian elegance. The mineral notes from the limestone-rich soil are clearly recognizable and provide tension and length in the finish, which lingers for minutes with nuanced layers. Stunning now, this wine will continue to develop over the next 15 to 20 years.
Food Pairing
This powerful and refined Malbec calls for dishes with depth and character. It pairs beautifully with grilled red meats such as entrecôte, rib-eye, or tenderloin, as well as slow-cooked stews and game such as venison, roe deer, or pigeon. The wine’s mineral freshness pairs perfectly with truffle risotto, mushroom ragout, and dishes with roasted vegetables and herbal accents. To finish, it combines wonderfully with aged hard cheeses such as Comté, Manchego, or Parmesan.
A wine with both power and elegance, ideal for a festive dinner or a gastronomic evening with lovers of characterful wines.
Additional information
The grapes for this exceptional and iconic Malbec come from Paraje Altamira, where they grow in the iconic Finca Piedra Infinita vineyard at an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters. The soil is stony and rich in limestone, formed by alluvial deposits from the Tunuyán River. The vines are planted on carefully selected plots with a topsoil of sand and loam, resting on a limestone-rich subsoil with a granite base. Thanks to the cool nights, the grapes retain their natural freshness, resulting in an elegant wine with refined acids and a harmonious tannin structure.
Fermentation of this wine was carried out with entirely natural yeasts in conical concrete vats. 50% was subsequently aged in new French oak barriques.
At the end of the 19th century, the Zuccardi family emigrated from Italy to Argentina. In the 1950s, Alberto V. Zuccardi founded an irrigation company, a logical step in a land where agriculture is hardly possible without irrigation. To demonstrate the success of his system, he planted his first vineyards in Maipú in 1963, followed by an expansion near Mendoza.
Since 1985, his son José Alberto Zuccardi has led the family business, which is now globally acclaimed for its quality. The Zuccardi winery has been named Best Vineyard in South America multiple times, and their wines consistently achieve top ratings, with some even reaching 100 Parker points.
Fun fact:
The name Piedra Infinita ("infinite stone") refers to the extremely stony, limestone-rich soil on which the vines stand, so hard that the terrain literally had to be broken up with dynamite before planting could take place. This unique terroir gives the wine its pronounced minerality and signature style.
