Tasting note Zuccardi Mountain Vineyard Malbec
The aroma primarily features blueberries, dark plums, and violets, complemented by aromatic herbs and a hint of black pepper. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, yet it remains beautifully vibrant thanks to its fresh acidity. The tannins are firm but refined, giving the wine a pleasant grip. Partial aging in French oak foudres provides extra roundness and depth, without the oak overpowering the fruitiness.
Wine & Food
Due to its firm structure and spicy character, this is an excellent accompaniment to grilled beef, lamb, and game. The wine also pairs well with stews, a spicy pepper sauce, and strong cheeses. A good combination, for example, is a ribeye steak with black pepper or a slow-cooked lamb stew.
Additional information
The name Mountain Vineyard refers to the location of the vineyards in the foothills of the Andes. Zuccardi focuses strongly on creating so-called mountain wines: wines in which altitude, climate, soil, and the vineyard's location are clearly reflected.
For this Malbec, the grapes are carefully selected and destemmed. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, after which a portion of the wine ages in French oak foudres. Depending on the vintage, this share is around 30 to 50%. This gives the wine more structure and roundness, while preserving the character of the Malbec.
At the end of the 19th century, the Zuccardi family emigrated from Italy to Argentina. In the 1950s, Alberto V. Zuccardi founded an irrigation company, a logical step in a country where agriculture is barely possible without irrigation. To demonstrate the success of his system, he planted his first vineyards in Maipú in 1963, followed by an expansion near Mendoza.
Since 1985, his son José Alberto Zuccardi has led the family business, which is now praised worldwide for its quality. Zuccardi has been repeatedly named Best Vineyard in South America, and their wines consistently achieve top ratings, with even outliers of 100 Parker points.

Fun fact
The image on the label is not just any mountain landscape. The Andes are literally the backdrop of the vineyards where this Malbec comes from. The high altitude ensures warm, sunny days and cool nights. It is precisely this large temperature difference that helps the grapes retain their freshness and aromas.
