Tasting Notes Calusari Sauvignon Blanc
Delightfully mild in its aromas, even somewhat understated. Fresh with plenty of fruit (gooseberry), but certainly not bone dry and definitely not a super crisp mouthfeel. Pleasantly juicy. Ideal house wine! Click here for more Sauvignon Blanc.
Wine & Food
This Calusari Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for drinks or with beautiful light fish dishes, salads, or traditional Dutch mussels.
Additional information
Romania new? No, it is a country with a long history. The legend says that Bacchus, the god of wine, spent his youth here.
Romania is the largest wine country in Central Europe. Thanks to its favorable climate and good location, they have been producing quality wines for many years. However, the country also experienced a dip in quality during the communist era, when quantity was prioritized over quality. Fortunately, Romania is currently among the ten largest wine producers in the world again.
The wine industry received a boost in the 18th century from Germans who emigrated from Bavaria to this part of Romania. They brought new technology and work ethic that still forms the basis of Cramele Recas' success today.
Calusari is the Romanian word for the participants in the Cãlus, an acrobatic traditional folk dance. They make cheerful wines that dance in the glass.
The vineyards, spanning 600 hectares, were replanted with the best quality grapevines at the beginning of the 21st century. The vinification facilities are modern and efficient, and the team of winemakers is led by Hartley Smithers (Australia) and Nora Iriate (Spain). As a result, Cramele Recas wines are renowned worldwide for their excellent price-quality ratio!
