Tasting Note Cap Maritime Estate Chardonnay
Boekenhoutskloof's Cap Maritime Chardonnay has beautiful aromas of oak, citrus, ripe yellow fruit, mandarin, melon, and a slight spiciness. The wine is medium to full-bodied on the palate with a nice balance between ripeness and freshness, and offers flavors of green apple, citrus fruit, and a tingling salinity. Beautiful long finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
Cap Maritime Estate Chardonnay pairs perfectly with grilled tuna, Vitello Tonato, pan-fried monkfish, and marinated and grilled prawns. A true dinner wine.
Additional Information
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is located about twenty kilometers from Hermanus, the coastal town on Walker Bay also known as the 'whale capital' of South Africa. It's warm there, but it rarely gets warmer than thirty degrees during the growing season. This is due to the fresh sea breeze and the fact that the vineyards are generally located at a higher elevation. The perfect place for winemaking.
At home in Franschhoek, Marc Kent has made a name for himself with magnificent wines such as Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which belong to the absolute top of South Africa. But Kent has even more tricks up his sleeve. In addition to these limited-production showpieces, he also produces exceptionally attractive wines under the names Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap, which are available to a wider audience. The Chocolate Block also certainly belongs at a slightly higher level.
Did you know? On the top of the capsule is an image of a slender lady. This is the figurehead of Boekenhoutskloof and is an adaptation of an early silver mark from the Cape of Good Hope, carrying the dove of peace and hope. She guards Boekenhoutskloof and represents intrinsic quality above all else.
