Tasting Notes Boekenhoutskloof Sémillon

Beautiful pale yellow in colour. The nose offers a blend of freshly squeezed lemons, juicy pears, orange blossom, soft lemon curd, and honeysuckle. The wine is rich, elegant, lively, and mineral-driven all at once. The use of oak is evident: the palate reveals notes of vanilla and almonds. All culminating in a long, dry, nutty finish with peach blossom and subtle marzipan.

Wine & Food Pairing

Boekenhoutskloof Sémillon is a fantastic, characterful white dinner wine. Serve something special, something rich in flavour: for example, a lobster salad, crab dishes, or a spicy Moroccan chicken tagine. This is not a wine to serve casually on the terrace or as an aperitif.

Additional Information

Boekenhoutskloof is a prominent winery in Franschhoek that is particularly impressive in terms of quality. Despite its somewhat unusual African name for 'French' Franschhoek, Boekenhoutskloof was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots.

Even the current winemaker, Marc Kent, still has a connection to France. He visits at least once a year to find new inspiration in Cornas, in the northern Rhône. Back home in Franschhoek, he has made a name for himself with blockbuster wines such as Boekenhoutskloof Sémillon, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which belong to the absolute top of South Africa.

But Kent has more strings to his bow. In addition to these flagship wines, produced only in small quantities, he also makes exceptionally attractive wines available to a wider audience under the names Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap. On a somewhat higher level, The Chocolate Block certainly belongs here too.
