Tasting Notes Boekenhoutskloof Syrah
Intensely dark colored Syrah. With a very attractive, varied aroma with purple plums, violets, exotic spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and clove), a hint of white pepper and dark chocolate. Rich, generous and intense. But also smooth, with beautiful acidity and mouth-filling, refined tannins. And with an immensely long, fruity finish. The beautiful structure of this wine indicates that it can age wonderfully.
Wine & Food Pairing
Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is not an everyday wine. It is therefore worth opening it with something special. Think of a piece of red meat (entrecôte, beef tenderloin), game (deer steak), poultry (duck, quail) or hard, aged cheeses. Intense enjoyment.

The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is, alongside the Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, Marc Kent's iconic wine, sourced from two vineyards in the Swartland (namely in Porseleinberg and Goldmine), famous for its unique terroir of rocky terrain and broken slate soils.
Winemaker Marc Kent still has a special connection with France. He visits at least once a year to gain new inspiration in the northern Rhône, Cornas. At home in Franschhoek, he has made a name for himself with magnificent wines such as Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which belong to the absolute top of South Africa.
But Kent has more arrows in his quiver. In addition to these limited-production showpieces, he also makes exceptionally attractive wines under the names Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap, which are available to a wider audience. The Chocolate Block also certainly belongs to this at a slightly higher level.
Did you know that; on the top of the capsule you will find an image of a slender lady. This is the figurehead of Boekenhoutskloof and is an adaptation of an early silver mark from the Cape of Good Hope, and she carries the dove of peace and hope. She watches over Boekenhoutskloof and represents intrinsic quality above all else.
