Tasting note Boekenhoutskloof Syrah
Intensely dark-colored Syrah. Features a very attractive, varied bouquet of purple plums, violets, exotic spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves), a hint of white pepper, and dark chocolate. Rich, generous, and intense. Yet also smooth, with lovely acidity and mouth-filling, refined tannins. Boasting an immensely long, fruity finish. The fine structure of this wine indicates that it has wonderful aging potential.
Food Pairing
Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is not an everyday wine. It is well worth opening for a special occasion. Think of a piece of red meat (sirloin, tenderloin), game (venison steak), poultry (duck, quail), or hard, aged cheeses. Pure enjoyment.
Other information
Alongside the Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is Marc Kent's iconic wine. It originates from two vineyards in the Swartland (namely Porseleinberg and Goldmine), famous for their unique terroir of rocky terrain and decomposed shale soils.
Winemaker Marc Kent still has a connection to France. He visits at least once a year to draw new inspiration from the northern Rhône and Cornas. Back home in Franschhoek, he has made a name for himself with powerhouse wines like the Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, each of which belongs to the absolute pinnacle of South Africa.
But Kent has more strings to his bow. In addition to these flagship wines, which are produced in limited quantities, he also makes exceptionally attractive wines under the Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap labels that are available to a wider audience. At a somewhat higher level, The Chocolate Block certainly also belongs here.
Did you know; on the top of the capsule you will find an image of a slender lady. This is the figurehead of Boekenhoutskloof and is an adaptation of an early silver hallmark from the Cape of Good Hope; she carries the dove of peace and hope. She guards Boekenhoutskloof and represents intrinsic quality that stands above all else.
