Tasting Note Feudo Arancio Passiari
Feudo Arancio Passiari has an intense aroma of blackberries and dark cherries, vanilla, licorice, and a hint of pepper. A long, complex finish with subtle notes of clove, cinnamon, tobacco, and vanilla due to aging in oak. The finish reveals pleasant acidity, providing enough tension in the wine to prevent it from becoming boring quickly. A sultry and characterful red wine from the island of Sicily.
Wine & Food
The wine pairs well with red and grilled meat, salami, a hearty risotto, or pasta Bolognese. Surprisingly good with grilled tuna and swordfish. Or how about for later in the evening after dinner, delicious with a cheese board?
Additional information
Feudo Arancio is part of the large Gruppo Mezzacorona. Mezzacorona, founded in 1904 in Alto Adige, was one of the first cooperatives in Italy and remains the best example of how the interests of farmers and the production of quality wines reinforce each other.
Since 2001, Mezzacorona has owned the Sicilian Feudo Arancio, and its vineyard holdings have grown to nearly 700 hectares, spread across the southern part of the island. Here too, there is a strong focus on sustainability, and the wines are made using the most modern methods.
The Nero d’Avola undergoes malolactic fermentation for 15 days and then rests for 12 months in 2-year-old French Barriques. The Syrah (75%) undergoes malolactic fermentation for 17 days and then rests for 12 months in 3-year-old French Barriques. The blend then rests for another 4 months in French Barriques and finally a minimum of 8 months in the bottle. The Nero d'Avola grapes in this wine (25%) are allowed to chill on mats for 60 days until they are slightly shriveled, which imparts a hint of raisins to the wine.
