Tasting Notes Vajra Moscato d'Asti
An elegant and aromatic Moscato d'Asti with a lightly sparkling character. The nose reveals notes of pear, apricot, orange blossom, elderflower, and white flowers, with a subtle honeyed tone.
On the palate, the wine is light and juicy, with a delicate sweetness and vibrant acidity. The gentle mousse gives the wine a wonderfully refreshing character. Despite its sweet style, it remains elegant and certainly not heavy.
Wine & Food
Vajra Moscato d'Asti is delightful as an aperitif, but of course also fantastic with fruit desserts, strawberries, peaches, panna cotta, and light pastries. Moscato d'Asti can also work surprisingly well with spicy Asian dishes: the sweetness and fresh acidity provide a beautiful counterpoint to piquant flavours.
Additional information
The wine is made from 100% Moscato Bianco. G.D. Vajra works with steep, older vineyards in the hills between Mango and Santo Stefano Belbo, a historically important area for Moscato d'Asti. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and only picked when they are beautifully ripe and golden in colour.
During winemaking, fermentation is stopped prematurely. This preserves some of the natural grape sugars and simultaneously creates the characteristic light fizz of Moscato d'Asti. The wine is thus clearly different from a fully sparkling wine like Champagne or Prosecco.
Aldo Vajra has always been a bit of a rebel. And rightly so, because this trait has led to this magnificent winery with its authentic wines. The story begins when Aldo, at the age of fifteen, is pulled off the street by his father during a demonstration in Turin and sent to his grandparents' farm. Aldo spends a lot of time in the vineyards that summer, where his interest in winemaking is sparked. He joins Suole e Salute, an organisation for organic wines in Italy. At just 18 years old, he makes his first organic wines in Piedmont.

Fun fact
Moscato d'Asti is actually a bit of an outsider in the world of sparkling wine. The wine is only partially fermented, which means it remains sweet and is only lightly sparkling. This results in a wine that is much lighter and less fizzy than Champagne or Prosecco. A delicious combination of sweet, fresh, and sparkling!
