Tasting note Vajra Langhe Rosso
This accessible, fruity Vajra Langhe Rosso showcases the authenticity of the region. The composition changes every year, but the style of the wine remains the same: soft, elegant, and fruity with a mineral touch. The wine features rich, elegant aromas of red berries and blackberries, complemented by notes of balsamic and pine needles. Pure and fresh on the palate with notes of strawberries, cherries, and blueberries and a hint of menthol.
Food Pairing
Vajra Langhe Rosso is delicious with classic dishes such as grilled meat, game, beef stew, or pasta with wild mushrooms.
Other information
Aldo Vajra has always been a bit of a rebel. And a good thing too, as this trait has led to this magnificent winery with its authentic wines. The story begins when, at fifteen, Aldo is pulled off the street by his father during a demonstration in Turin and sent to his grandparents' farm. Aldo spends much of that summer in the vineyards, where his interest in winemaking is sparked. He joins Suole e Salute, an organization for organic wines in Italy. By the age of 18, he is already making his first organic wines in Piedmont.
The Vajra vineyards are located northwest of the town of Barolo and have been farmed organically from the very beginning. The high altitude of the vineyards (the Bricco delle Viole is among the highest in Piedmont) ensures significant temperature differences between day and night. The grapes ripen slowly and completely, giving the wines wonderful finesse and elegance. The relatively cool climate in this area has caused many winemakers to grub up the Dolcetto grape, as it requires warmth to fully develop.
During and after the harvest, the grapes undergo a rigorous selection, after which each grape variety and each parcel undergoes separate fermentation. During fermentation, the juice is pumped over the skins multiple times to extract as much color and aroma as possible. After fermentation, the wine matures for another 10 to 14 months, depending on the vintage. The majority matures in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion in neutral oak barrels, so that the wine's fruity character is preserved as much as possible.

Fun fact
The Vajra Langhe Rosso is slightly different every year, because the blend changes depending on the harvest. In 2024, for example, it consists of 54% Nebbiolo, 31% Dolcetto, 6% Barbera, 2% Freisa, 2% Albarossa, and 5% Slarina and Chatus. This makes it, in effect, a kind of ‘family portrait of Piedmontese grape varieties’ in a single bottle.
