Tasting Notes Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo
The wine has an inviting, vibrant nose with aromas of roses, violets, berries, dark fruit, lavender, and mint. Elegant and complex on the palate with layers of juicy red fruit, orange peel, and sweet spices, supported by earthy and mineral notes. Already beautiful to drink young, but the wine will develop nicely in the coming years.
Wine & Food
The G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo is an elegant and versatile wine that pairs wonderfully with both classic Piedmontese cuisine and refined international dishes. Think fresh pasta with ragù, creamy risotto with mushrooms, grilled lamb, or duck with a fruity sauce. This Nebbiolo also shines with aged cheeses such as Taleggio and Fontina. Serve it slightly cooler, around 16 °C, for an optimal expression of its fruity aromas and refined structure.
Additional Information
An ode to the purity of the Nebbiolo grape. The grapes are harvested from younger vineyards, aged 10 to 25 years, spread across various plots of the estate. The differences in soil and exposure create a unique dynamic: some grapes ripen earlier than others, leading to multiple harvesting rounds to select only the very best fruit.
After harvesting, each plot ferments separately for about 19 days, after which the wine continues to mature in stainless steel, and, depending on the vintage, a small portion in used (neutral) wood. This allows the character of the grape to express itself as fully as possible.
Aldo Vajra of the eponymous Vajra winery has always been a bit rebellious. And rightly so, because this trait has led to this magnificent winery with its authentic wines. The story begins when Aldo, at fifteen, is pulled off the street by his father during a demonstration in Turin and sent to his grandparents' farm. Aldo spends that summer a lot of time in the vineyards, where his interest in winemaking is sparked. He joins Suole e Salute, an organization for organic wines in Italy. Already at the age of 18, he makes his first organic wines in Piedmont.
