Tasting Note: Oddbird Low Intervention Sparkling Orange

A unique alcohol-free sparkling orange wine from Alsace. The wine has a striking golden-yellow color and an aromatic character with notes of ripe peach, orange peel, jasmine, and herbs. 
Due to the longer contact with the grape skins, the wine has more structure and a subtle grip than you might expect from a sparkling wine. The taste is round and refined, with vibrant acidity and a slightly spicy, pleasantly fresh finish.

Oddbird Low Intervention Sparkling Orange is a sparkling wine that you don't just have to drink as an aperitif. Its aromatic style and light structure make it an excellent pairing for Asian and spicy dishes, couscous, tagine, roasted vegetables, tapas, and various cheeses. 

Additional information

The wine is made from organic grapes from Alsace, sourced from vineyards with clay-limestone soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently crushed as whole bunches. Subsequently, the grapes remain on their skins for seven days. This so-called skin contact is precisely what gives this wine its golden color, extra structure, and light tannins. 

A natural fermentation then takes place, and the wine matures for no less than 12 months in stainless steel tanks. Only after this maturation is the alcohol removed using a gentle method at low temperature, with Oddbird trying to preserve as much of the original aroma and structure as possible.

Oddbird was founded in 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden, by Moa Gürbüzer. Moa worked for over twenty years as a social worker and family therapist and saw first-hand how much trouble alcohol can cause within families. From that experience, her idea arose not only to help people who were already dealing with alcohol problems but also to change the way we look at alcohol.

Her vision was actually very simple: the question "Would you like your wine with or without alcohol?" should become as normal as asking whether you want coffee with or without milk. From that idea, Oddbird was born.
