Tasting Notes Luigi Baudana Dragon Langhe Bianco

A fresh, characterful white wine from Serralunga d’Alba, made from a special field blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Nascetta, and Riesling. The grapes grow side-by-side in the same vineyard and are harvested and processed together. 

The aroma reveals white flowers, acacia, hawthorn, citrus, tropical fruit, and a hint of mint. On the palate, the wine is lively and juicy, with fresh acidity, beautiful minerality, and a long, flavorful finish. As the wine opens up further, notes of lime, apricot, green apple, and flint emerge.

Its freshness and minerality make this wine very versatile. Delicious with grilled fish with lemon or dishes with green herbs, it truly shines.

Additional information

What makes this wine special is that the four grape varieties are literally interspersed in the same vineyard. This is not a traditional blend where each grape is vinified separately and then blended later. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Nascetta, and Riesling are harvested together and then processed jointly. 

The grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, with as little skin contact as possible. This is followed by a slow fermentation at a low temperature. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, thus preserving its natural freshness and tension. 

The Dragon is therefore a fine example of Luigi Baudana's idiosyncratic style: a white wine from Serralunga d’Alba, an area primarily famous for its Nebbiolo and Barolo.

Fun fact

The dragon on the label is not a random design. The Dragon represents courage and was the last drawing by artist Gianni Gallo. He created the dragon as a wish for the Vaira family on their new adventure with Luigi Baudana.
