Tasting Notes Kleine Oranjerie Shiraz
A smooth and accessible Shiraz from South Africa, originating from the Western Cape. The aroma reveals ripe black cherries, blackberries, and other dark forest fruits, complemented by notes of vanilla, spices, and a subtle smokiness.
The taste is juicy and round, with ripe dark fruit, black pepper, cloves, and a hint of dark chocolate. The tannins are smooth and the wine has a beautiful, inviting structure. The finish is spicy and fruity.
Wine & Food Pairing
Kleine Oranjerie Shiraz is an excellent combination with grilled and seasoned meats, barbecue, hamburgers, lamb, and stews. The wine also pairs well with game and strong cheeses.
Especially dishes with a smoky or spicy character beautifully complement the smoky and spicy notes in the wine.
Additional information
The wine is part of the Kleine Oranjerie series from Wildeberg and originates from the Western Cape in South Africa. For this Shiraz, most of the fruit comes from Paarl, supplemented by a small proportion of grapes from Franschhoek. That extra fruit provides more zest and distinction in the wine.
The wine also receives a limited influence from new oak, approximately 10% new oak, which provides extra roundness and softness without suppressing the fruity character.
Fun fact
Shiraz and Syrah are the same grape. In Europe, the name Syrah is usually used, while the name Shiraz is mainly known from countries like Australia and South Africa. The grape originated in the Rhône but has now spread throughout the wine world.
