Tasting Notes Kleine Oranjerie Pinotage
A full-bodied and fruity South African Pinotage with a rich and alluring character. The aroma reveals ripe blackberries, black cherries, and plums, complemented by spicy notes and a hint of cocoa.
The taste is juicy and full, with plenty of dark fruit and soft, well-integrated tannins. Subtle notes of vanilla, spices, and cocoa add extra depth. The wine has a beautiful round structure and a pleasant, fruity finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
Kleine Oranjerie Pinotage is an excellent accompaniment to barbecue, grilled meat, red meat, spicy stews, and strong cheeses. This Pinotage also pairs well with roasted poultry and dishes with a slightly sweet or spicy component.
Additional Information
The wine is part of the Kleine Oranjerie series from Wildeberg and originates from the Western Cape in South Africa. The producer is Wildeberg, Boutinot's winery in the Franschhoek Valley.
Pinotage is, of course, a quintessential South African grape. The variety originated in 1925 from a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. This makes Pinotage one of the few grape varieties that truly emerged specifically from the South African wine tradition.
Fun fact
Pinotage originated in 1925 when the South African professor Abraham Perold crossed Pinot Noir with Cinsault. At the time, Cinsault was often called Hermitage in South Africa. The name Pinotage is therefore a combination of Pinot and Hermitage.
