Other information
According to the Jordans, this wine offers the ultimate terroir expression of the estate. The wine is produced in limited quantities and is a tribute to the family's history. The grapes grow on west-facing slopes, where the evening sun provides warmth until late in the afternoon, and the cooling sea breeze helps maintain freshness in the grapes.
Cobblers Hill is the red counterpart to Jordan's white Nineyards Chardonnay. The wine is a beautiful example of what is possible in Stellenbosch regarding expressive terroir wines from granite soil. The bunches yield small berries full of highly concentrated fruit. The wine is formed through a careful blend, which follows the quality of the harvest each year.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, where the juice is regularly pumped over the skins (3 times a day) for maximum color and aroma extraction. In the cellars, work is done as much as possible using gravity. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, after which the best wines are selected and further aged for 24 months in French barriques.
The Jordan winery is the only estate in Stellenbosch that owns vineyards (a whopping 164 hectares) planted in every direction. It is a true family business that has been producing high-quality wines for years. They combine the ripe, concentrated, and fruity accessibility of the New World with the complex structure of classic wines. The international acclaim is therefore enormous.
