This wine has an intense, rich nose with aromas of dark berries and notes of allspice, black cardamom, clove, and graphite. On the palate, one finds a compote of black plums, blackberries, and red currants, and a balanced mid-palate with vibrant notes of red plums, black cherry, green olives, and violets. The wine has a good tannin structure and hints of espresso, tar, and star anise on the finish.

In this wine region, where only one cooperative was active in the past, the so-called "Swartland Revolution" erupted fifteen years ago. Young winemakers with new ideas came to settle there because they saw potential in this region to make terroir wines. Now, it is recognized as one of the most exciting wine regions in South Africa. On the slopes of the Riebeekberg, a place where intensive gold prospecting took place at the end of the 19th century, are the vineyards that provide the fruit for this special wine.

Boekenhoutskloof is a prominent winery in Franschhoek that is particularly impressive in terms of quality. Despite its somewhat unusual African name for 'French' Franschhoek, Boekenhoutskloof was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots.

The current winemaker, Marc Kent, still has a connection to France. He visits at least once a year to gain new inspiration in the northern Rhône, Cornas. Back home in Franschhoek, he has made a name for himself with magnificent wines like Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which belong to the absolute top of South Africa.
