Tasting note Esporão Monte Velho White
The nose features primarily fruit impressions of stone fruit such as plum, peach, apricot and citrus. The taste is firm and well-balanced, in which the fruit also plays the leading role. A particularly long finish. A light straw-yellow color.
Food Pairing
Monte Velho White pairs well with oven-baked pizzas, fish dishes, crustaceans and shellfish, and is an ideal match for asparagus.
Additional information
The history of the Esporão winery goes back a long way. Today, it is a leading producer of quality Portuguese wines and olive oil. In addition, the company also excels in sustainability. In 1985, Portugal's most modern winery was built, working as much as possible with natural techniques.
A second winery was added in 2002, which focused primarily on white wine. The vineyards are located in the Alentejo region. This region is characterized by summers with very hot days and strong cooling at night, followed by an extremely cold winter by Portuguese standards. This climate, combined with volcanic soil and local grape varieties, forms the basis for original wines.
This white wine was first brought to market in 1992. The name comes from the 'monte' (hill) located next to the Caridade dam at Herdade do Esporão. Monte Velho is the best-selling wine brand in Portugal and has won various awards.
