Tasting Note Ca'Bolani Friulano Friuli Aquileia

A hint of green bell pepper, some spice, citrus fruits, and Golden Delicious apple. On the palate, it has a lot of body, the yellow fruit is present, along with some herbs such as basil, parsley, and chervil. Clearly, it has the "oh so" Italian characteristic almond bitterness at the finish.

Wine & Food

This Ca'Bolani Friulano is ideal with dishes from Northern Italian cuisine. Such as a plate of San Daniele ham, or a Caprese salad with a spoonful of pesto on top. Also excellent with a piece of fish and stir-fried vegetables.

Additional information

The Friuli wine region is located in northeastern Italy. The climate is influenced by a mix of air currents from the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. About 100 kilometers east of Venice, around the ancient Roman town of Aquileia, is the birthplace of this wine, where the terroir largely consists of sand, clay, and pebbles.

The winery is named after the noble Bolani family, who sold the property in 1970 to the Zonin family, who have further built its reputation. Friulano is an indigenous grape variety here with unique aromatic properties not found in any other grape.

This Ca' Bolani Friulano is a surprising Italian wine. It is made from the Friulano grape. This is a typical Italian grape that you might not immediately think of. However, this grape is very famous in Friuli and the pride of the winery Ca’ Bolani. This grape used to be very common in Chile. People then thought it was the Sauvignon Blanc grape... I must admit: it has a lot in common with it. Delicious wine!

Fun fact

The Ca'Bolani Friulano comes from Aquileia, an area where wine was already cultivated in Roman times. The Roman writer Pliny the Elder already wrote about the special wines from this region. The vineyards of Ca'Bolani are therefore literally on ancient wine soil.
