Additional information
The wine comes from Cervognano, an area within Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Here, the Boscarelli winery has its vineyards and has been making wines for generations that focus on the typical characteristics of Sangiovese. The soil in Cervognano is stony and rich in red clay of alluvial origin. The Riserva falls under the DOCG Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, the highest Italian quality classification.
The grapes are harvested by hand, individually destemmed, and gently crushed. Subsequently, the different varieties ferment separately in oak barrels, which are filled to a maximum of about two-thirds.
Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and lasts approximately 10 days at 28–30 °C. During fermentation, the skins are regularly submerged, and the must is pumped over the skins. Maceration can then continue for another 5 to 8 days.
Afterward, each cuvée ages separately in French and Slavonian oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation also occurs there. The total aging lasts a remarkable 28 to 32 months. Only then are the different wines blended. The wine then undergoes several months of bottle aging before being released to the market.

Fun fact
The name Sotto Casa literally means "under the house." The wine comes from Boscarelli's vineyards in Cervognano, directly around the historic estate. It is thus literally a wine from the vineyards "around the doorstep."
