Tasting Notes Boscarelli Il Nocio Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
A very elegant and characterful Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG from Tuscany, made from Sangiovese. The aroma reveals refined notes of ripe cherries, raspberries, and plums, complemented by fine spiciness and subtle earthy undertones.
The taste is beautifully balanced: juicy and concentrated, yet above all refined. The wine has lively acidity, silky tannins, and great depth. Notes of blackcurrant, mulberry, Mediterranean herbs, and a light minerality emerge alongside the ripe cherry fruit. The finish is long, elegant, and increasingly complex.
Wine & Food
Boscarelli Il Nocio Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a wine for special dishes. Think of bistecca alla Fiorentina, Chianina beef, lamb, game, and dishes with mushrooms or truffles. This wine also pairs excellently with slow-cooked meat dishes and aged hard cheeses.
Additional Information
Il Nocio comes from the eponymous Vigna del Nocio, a vineyard of approximately 4 hectares on the eastern side of the Boscarelli estate. The plots are located between approximately 280 and 350 meters above sea level and have a unique alluvial soil with distinctly different sandy and clayey zones.
Boscarelli has owned the vineyard since 1988. Since 1991, the family has been specifically selecting different clones of Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile here, tailored to the soil and microclimate. On average, only about 5,000 bottles of Il Nocio are produced annually.
And that immediately explains why this wine is so special: Il Nocio is a pure expression of one specific vineyard and one grape variety.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, with a maximum fill of about two-thirds, and uses indigenous yeasts. The temperature is controlled between approximately 27 and 31 °C. During the initial phase, short pump-overs are performed, and the cap is manually submerged. After alcoholic fermentation, maceration can continue for another 7 to 10 days.
Subsequently, the individual cuvées mature for 18 to 24 months in French and Slavonian oak barrels of 5 to 10 hectoliters. Only then are the different batches blended. The wine then undergoes approximately one year of bottle aging before being sold. Discover more wines from the Tuscan winery Boscarelli.

Fun Fact
Boscarelli produces on average only about 5,000 bottles of Il Nocio per year. The grapes come exclusively from the approximately 4-hectare Vigna del Nocio, where the family has applied special selections of Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile since 1991. It is truly a vineyard wine, not just an ordinary Vino Nobile.
