The Languedoc-Roussillon wine region has a history spanning 27 centuries and consists of 300,000 hectares of vineyards. This makes it the largest wine region in the world. It is an ideal area for wine production because the climate is stable and warm. In addition, the mountains provide cooling at night. This has a beneficial effect on the aromas of the grapes. The soil is varied: plenty of limestone in the coastal regions and plenty of slate in the hills. Due to these ideal conditions, the winemaker hardly needs to treat the vineyards against diseases.
