Upon first acquaintance, you smell plums and the freshness of cherries. On the palate, the soft structure, due to velvety tannins, is particularly striking. Again, there is a lot of red fruit, complemented by the spiciness from a short stay in oak barrels (French and American). In this wine, you taste the warmth of the Italian sun. Deep ruby red in color.

Classic with orecchiette (ear-shaped pasta) and capunti with stew. Roasted white meat and dishes with rich sauces. Also delicious with aged (semi-)hard cheeses.

The Velarino vineyards are located in the south of Italy, in Puglia, specifically in Salento. This region is best known for its wide beaches and crystal-clear sea. The vineyard is quite old and yields a top harvest today. The vineyards receive a lot of sunshine, allowing the harvest to ripen easily. A very pleasant side effect is that there is always a fresh breeze from the sea. This provides refreshment to the harvest, allowing the Malvasia Nera grape to grow evenly and calmly.

The soil in which the vines grow is a kind of treasure trove for the grape cluster. Wine has been cultivated on these lands for hundreds of years, and we taste that back in the wine. When the harvest is ripe, the winemaker of Velarino brings in the harvest entirely by hand. Only the best grapes are selected and transported to Velarino's cellars.

The name 'Puglia' is derived from the Roman 'a-pluvia,' meaning lack of rain. The vineyards are located on flat terrain where they are scorched by the hot sun.
