This white wine is made from the Vermentino grape from vineyards in the Italian Puglia region. It is not entirely clear where Vermentino originated. It is most likely that around 1600, Venetian merchants gave the grape as a gift to the merchants of Liguria. At that time, the grape was called "Bianco di Favori". This wine can still be found in Piedmont, where the grape is called Favorita.

Vermentino is by far the most important white grape for white wines from Sardinia, but it is also found on the Tuscan coast in Maremma, the island of Elba, and around Bolgheri.

This grape thrives on the rich subsoil of gravel and limestone. The climate of these vineyards consists of a period with plenty of sunshine, but also enormous cold periods are observable. The cool wind, coming from the ocean, provides refreshment during the season. In combination with the right number of sun hours, this combination results in a rich wine with a particularly fresh character. The grapes are harvested by hand early in the morning, which benefits the purity of the wine.

The name ‘Puglia’ is derived from the Roman ‘a-pluvia’, which means lack of rain. The vineyards are on flat terrain where they are scorched by the hot sun.
