Tasting Note Uggiano Governo all'uso Toscano
Soft red berry fruit and lots of cherries and more cherries. Nicely jammy, full, spicy and very tasty. It has a resemblance to an appassimento. Accessible for everyone and therefore also very suitable for the novice wine drinker. Ruby clear color.
Wine & Food
Chianti loves tomatoes. Uggiano Governo all'uso Toscano pairs well with typical Tuscan dishes like Ossobuco, wild boar, Pollo alla Cacciatora or a typical Tuscan crostini with chicken livers, but also goes well with a pasta bolognese, lasagna or pizza. Or how about a platter with salami, coppa and prosciutto, a fig and some cheese. Perfect for a get-together.
Additional information
Governo is a winemaking technique where the first-picked grapes (10 to 15% of the harvest) are dried on mats in the sun. These dried grapes are later added to wine that has just finished fermenting. This creates a second fermentation. This method makes the wine drinkable earlier, and it can be consumed as early as April/May of the following year. This method also makes the wine much more stable and adds suppleness.
Winemaker Giuseppe Losapio founded Azienda Uggiano in the early 1970s and steadily developed the estate in San Vincenzo a Torri. It is now one of the leading producers in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini zone. With 100 hectares of vineyards on hills (in both Colli Fiorentini and around the neighboring Chianti Classico,
near San Casciano), Uggiano produces classic and elegant Tuscan red wines from the region's main grape varieties such as Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Sometimes with a small splash of Merlot for extra creaminess. The Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes come from Uggiano's vineyards – which stretch across the hills connecting Montespertoli with Montelupo Fiorentino and San Casciano Val di Pesa.

Gold and black trim. Governor in his Sunday best. And Sangiovese also putting its best foot forward. Red Tuscan made with partially dried grapes. Thus with a slight currant sweetness sensation.
The sun shines, the plums gleam, the cherries show off and ripe tannins please. Has more to say than the previous year. A plus.
