Tasting Notes The Wolftrap Red
The aroma features dark fruit, ripe plums, blueberries, subtle spices and some violets, herbs, coffee, and cocoa beans. Deliciously juicy and fruity taste, round and spicy with a ripe, soft tannin structure. Deep red in color.
Wine & Food
This Wolftrap red loves a piece of grilled meat. In South African terms: a 'braai', but it also tastes delicious with hearty meat dishes, such as beef, game, and strong cheeses.
Additional Information
The Wolftrap is a wine from one of the best winemakers in South Africa. In the late eighteenth century, French Huguenots started a winery in Franschhoek in South Africa. Remarkably, the French founders of this now famous winery chose the Afrikaans name 'Boekenhoutskloof'.
Winemakers Mark Kent and Rudiger Gretschel are currently the driving forces behind this renowned wine estate. Many wine writers from all over the world consider the Boekenhoutskloof winery to be among the best wine companies in South Africa.
The red Wolftrap is an attractive blend, primarily Syrah, complemented by Mourvèdre and a few percent of the white grape variety Viognier. The grapes were long macerated and the wine matured in partially new French oak.
