Tasting Notes Perdeberg Dry Collection Longevity Natural Sweet Chenin (0.375 liter)
The aroma reveals rich notes of honeycomb, orange marmalade, and ripe tangerine, supported by subtle hints of ginger and dried fruit. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and luscious with a slightly syrupy texture, yet remains lively and elegant due to its fresh acidity. The flavor evolves towards honey, citrus confiture, and a hint of exotic spices, with a soft, lingering, and refreshing sweet finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
Perdeberg Dry Collection Longevity Natural Sweet Chenin pairs beautifully with fruity desserts such as tarte tatin, orange cheesecake, or a tangerine and white chocolate parfait. Creamy desserts with accents of citrus or honey also complement the wine's rich, fresh style. Furthermore, it creates a surprisingly good combination with pâté, for example, served with quince chutney. This wine also excels with cheeses, especially blue cheeses or creamy cheeses like Brie. Finally, it can harmoniously accompany Asian dishes featuring sweet and sour sauces or fruity elements.
Additional Information
This wine is from the Dry Land Collection of the South African winery Perdeberg. The Chenin Blanc grapes are left on the vine for an extended period until they are almost dried, similar to the Italian appassimento principle. This concentrates sugars and aromas significantly, resulting in a rich, aromatic dessert wine with a remarkable balance between sweetness and fresh acidity.
In July 2021, Perdeberg in South Africa celebrated its 80-year milestone in the wine industry. Perdeberg, founded in 1941, is known for producing remarkable 'dry land' wines. The company was born when owner Jan Rossouw brought farmers in the region together with the vision of making their own wines instead of selling their grapes.
