Tasting Notes Montes Outer Limits CGM (Carignan, Grenache, and Mourvèdre)
The aroma reveals ripe raspberries, sour cherries, blackberries, and blueberries, complemented by sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. In the background, subtle notes of jam and a light toast are perceptible.
The taste is vibrant and juicy, with soft tannins, fresh acidity, and a medium body. The wine has a remarkably long finish and remains beautifully balanced.
A characterful and lively red blend from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. CGM stands for Carignan, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, three grape varietals that together produce a surprisingly juicy and spicy wine.
Wine & Food
Montes Outer Limits CGM is delicious with lamb, grilled meats, stews, spicy sausage, barbecue, and Mediterranean dishes. It also pairs well with dishes featuring eggplant, bell peppers, and tomatoes.
Additional Information
The Montes Outer Limits series was developed from the search for unique and sometimes extreme terroirs in Chile. For the CGM, Montes found Marchigüe in the Colchagua Valley, where the granite-rich soils and climate produce grapes with great character.
This combination is primarily known from Southern France and the Rhône, but Montes gives it a distinct Chilean twist. The wine therefore has a beautiful combination of ripe fruit, spiciness, freshness, and structure.
A special aspect of this wine is its aging in concrete eggs. Montes uses large egg-shaped concrete vessels for this. Due to the natural movement of the wine during maturation, the wine can develop without the character of wood being added.
In addition, a portion of the wine has only brief contact with French oak, creating subtle notes of toast and spices without the wood dominating the fruitiness.

Fun Fact
CGM is actually a short abbreviation for a very classic Mediterranean combination: Carignan, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. These three grapes are best known from Southern France, but Montes lets them run wild here in Chile. And it is precisely the combination with the granite-rich soils of Colchagua that gives the wine its own Chilean character.
