Tasting Notes Montes Outer Limits Albariño
A fresh and elegant Albariño from Zapallar on the Chilean coast. The aroma reveals grapefruit, sweet pear, and nectarine, with a subtle citrusy freshness.
The taste is crisp and lively, with fresh acidity, minerality, and a slightly saline hint that clearly evokes the nearby Pacific Ocean. The wine has a silky mouthfeel, a medium body, and a long, invigorating finish.
Wine & Food Pairing
Montes Outer Limits Albariño is delightful as an aperitif and excellent with oysters, mussels, sushi, sashimi, ceviche, grilled sea bass, paella, and seafood risotto. Goat cheese is also a lovely combination.
Additional information
The Montes Outer Limits series is a journey of discovery through Chile's most unique and extreme terroirs. For this Albariño, Montes found its home in Zapallar, on the coast of Aconcagua.
Albariño is, of course, primarily known from Rías Baixas in Galicia, but Montes demonstrates that this grape also thrives on the Chilean coast. The very cool sea breeze ensures that the grapes ripen slowly and retain their fresh acidity. The combination of fruit, minerality, and salty freshness gives this Chilean Albariño its very own character.
The Albariño is made without oak aging. This is a conscious choice: it fully preserves the fresh acidity, fruit, and mineral character. The grapes are grown with a relatively low yield of approximately 6 tons per hectare. The wine is sterile filtered before bottling. Discover more wines from the Montes winery

Fun fact
Albariño is usually immediately associated with Spain, but Montes brought the grape to one of Chile's coolest coastal regions. In Zapallar, the grape takes on a completely different expression: in addition to the fresh citrus and stone fruit, the wine has a striking saline and mineral character.
