Tasting note Montes Outer Limits Albariño
A fresh and elegant Albariño from Zapallar on the Chilean coast. The nose reveals grapefruit, sweet pear, and nectarine, with a subtle citrusy freshness.
The palate is crisp and lively, with fresh acidity, minerality, and a light saline touch that clearly evokes the nearby Pacific Ocean. The wine has a silky mouthfeel, a medium body, and a long, invigorating finish.
Food Pairing
Montes Outer Limits Albariño is delicious as an aperitif and excellent with oysters, mussels, sushi, sashimi, ceviche, grilled sea bass, paella, and seafood risotto. Goat cheese is also a lovely combination.
Additional information
The Montes Outer Limits series is a voyage of discovery through Chile's most unique and extreme terroirs. For this Albariño, Montes chose Zapallar, on the coast of Aconcagua.
We know Albariño primarily from Rías Baixas in Galicia, but Montes shows that this grape also feels right at home on the Chilean coast. The very cool sea breeze ensures the grapes ripen slowly and retain their fresh acidity. The combination of fruit, minerality, and saline freshness gives this Chilean Albariño a character all its own.
The Albariño is made without oak aging. This is a deliberate choice: it allows the fresh acidity, fruit, and mineral character to remain completely intact. The grapes are grown with a relatively low yield of approximately 6 tons per hectare. The wine is sterile filtered before bottling. Discover more wines from the Montes winery

Fun fact
Albariño is usually immediately associated with Spain, but Montes took the grape to one of the coolest coastal regions of Chile. As a result, the grape takes on a very different expression in Zapallar: in addition to the fresh citrus and stone fruit, the wine has a striking saline and mineral character.
