Tasting note Montes Alpha Syrah
A powerful and characterful Syrah from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. The aroma reveals ripe blackberries, figs, and blackcurrants, complemented by cassis, black pepper, leather, and dark chocolate.
The taste is full-bodied and concentrated, yet beautifully balanced thanks to the fresh acidity and remarkably soft tannins. The wine has great structure and volume, while the spicy and fruity notes provide excitement. The finish is long, powerful, and refined.
Wine & Food
Montes Alpha Syrah pairs well with grilled meats, lamb, and red meat. It is also highly recommended with spicy blue cheeses.
Additional Information
The Chilean wine company Montes was founded in 1987 by Aurelio Montes along with three partners, with years of experience in winemaking and the wine trade. The ambition to grow into the best wine company Chile could achieve has certainly been realized. Worldwide, Montes is regarded as one of the best producers of premium wines.
A special detail is that approximately 50% of the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The remaining wine is aged without this barrel maturation. This gives the Syrah extra structure and complexity, while the character of the fruit remains clearly present.
For the wood aging, a significant portion of new French oak is used. According to Montes, the wine can be enjoyed now, but also has a cellaring potential of approximately ten years.

Fun Fact
Syrah from Colchagua has a very recognizable Chilean character. In addition to dark fruit and peppery spice, this wine also reveals notes of cassis, leather, and dark chocolate. Montes considers this combination characteristic of Syrah from Colchagua.
