Tasting Notes Montes Alpha Pinot Noir
The aromas of this Chilean Pinot Noir from Montes burst from the glass: violets, plums, red and black berries, licorice, and a hint of white pepper spice. Hints of wildflowers and violets give us the illusion of being in the shade of a forest. Because the wine has been aged in wood, you can also subtly taste tobacco, vanilla, and a touch of caramel. The finish is intense and pleasantly soft.
Wine & Food Pairing
Montes Alpha Pinot Noir pairs well with pasta with pesto, cream soups (mushroom), risotto ai funghi, veal, and soft cheeses.
Additional Information
The Chilean wine company Montes was founded in 1987 by Aurelio Montes along with three partners, with many years of experience in winemaking and the wine trade. The ambition to grow into the best wine company that Chile could achieve has certainly been realized. Worldwide, Montes is considered one of the best producers of top wines.
The grapes are harvested manually in small crates, ensuring they arrive at the winery cool and intact. After careful selection, the grapes are destemmed, and the whole, uncrushed berries go into open stainless steel tanks. This is followed by cold maceration for about five days at 8 °C.
Fermentation takes about seven days at 23–24 °C. After fermentation, the wine is gently pressed and then transferred to 225-liter French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also takes place. The wine then matures in barrels for approximately 10 to 12 months before being lightly filtered and bottled.
