Tasting Note Montes Alpha Chardonnay
A rich yet elegant Chardonnay from Aconcagua Costa in Chile, where the vineyards are strongly influenced by the proximity of the Pacific Ocean. The aroma offers abundant pineapple, ripe banana, mango, peach, and pear, complemented by grapefruit and subtle hints of toast.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and creamy, yet fresh due to its natural acidity. The combination of ripe tropical fruit, citrus, and refined oak notes creates a beautiful balance. The finish is long, elegant, and inviting.
Wine & Food Pairing
Montes Alpha Chardonnay pairs wonderfully with salmon tartare, lobster, fresh shellfish, mature cheeses, pasta with cream sauce, white meat, poultry, crab, risotto, salmon, and sea bass. In short, the ultimate food wine!
Additional Information
The Alpha series from the Montes winery is the heart of all wines made by winemaker Aurelio Montes. The grapes for this wine come from their relatively cool vineyards along the Chilean coast, called D.O. Aconcagua.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. Montes uses various techniques to process the grapes, including whole-bunch pressing, pressing after destemming, and a short cold maceration. The must is then fermented at a relatively low temperature, preserving the fresh and aromatic qualities.
A portion of the wine then undergoes extended aging in French oak. According to Montes, a portion of the wine is aged for approximately 12 months in French oak, which provides extra structure and subtle notes of toast and vanilla without the oak overpowering the wine.

Fun Fact
Montes Alpha Chardonnay comes from Aconcagua Costa, a cool coastal region where the refreshing influence of the Pacific Ocean creates a completely different climate than in the warmer parts of Chile. This coolness helps the Chardonnay retain its crisp acidity and refined character. As a result, the wine combines ripe fruit and creaminess with a beautiful freshness.
