Tasting note Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum

Expressive aroma with influences of red fruit and blackcurrant supported by characteristics of chocolate, black pepper, vanilla, and some cedar wood. Eight months in French oak yield aromas of vanilla, smoke, cigar boxes, and sweet spices. This wine is rich and fresh, robust and elegant at the same time. Everything falls into place, a beautiful balance and a long finish. An intensely deep red color.

Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with grilled meat, red meat, lamb, game and pasta dishes, paella, cannelloni, and mature cheeses.

Additional information

The Alpha series from the winery Montes is the heart of all wines made by winemaker Aurelio Montes. Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is made from strictly selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the slopes of Marchigüe and especially the steep Apalta vineyard in Colchagua Valley on the Tinguiririca river. Here, the grapes benefit from an excellent microclimate, with poor soil mainly of granite with some clay.

The wine undergoes approximately eight months of aging in French oak. This creates the characteristic notes of vanilla, smoke, cedar, and sweet spices, while preserving the fruit and structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Montes also works with a so-called water-saving winegrowing system. By accurately determining how much water the vineyards actually need, the winery has significantly reduced irrigation water usage according to its own data.

Fun fact

Montes Alpha was a pioneer for Chilean premium wines. When the first Montes Alpha was made in 1987, the winery wanted to show that Chile could produce wines that could compete with the best international wines. The Alpha line has since grown into one of the best-known premium wines of Chile.
