Tasting Notes Maison J. Thorin Morgon
Red fruit, especially Morello cherry, but also apricot and peach rise to the nose. On the palate, the tannins show clear firmness. This Morgon is definitely more robust and full-bodied than most Beaujolais crus. Rich, well-structured with a deep flavour that allows it to age or "morgonner" (this is the local saying to describe its aging ability!).
Wine & Food
An elegant accompaniment to roasted roast beef in red wine sauce, saucisses de Lyon, or a beautiful charcuterie board. Also worth trying with a hearty chili con carne. Can also be paired with a firm, somewhat harder cheese.
Additional Information
A unique history connects the name Thorin with Beaujolais and Mâconnais. The history of Thorin goes back more than 1500 years! The name probably appeared in the Beaujolais region as early as 457. And even originally from Bornholm in Denmark when they were still called Thores.
The origin of the Thorin winery is therefore linked to that of a hamlet founded by the Burgundian Thores and the village of Romanèche, which later took the name Romanèche-Thorins. In 1690, under the reign of Louis XIV, there were already about a hundred people with this name in the municipality of Romanèche alone.
The ultimate Thorin winery was founded by Jean Thorin in 1843. With the benefit of 180 years of traditional family experience in Beaujolais, Maison J. Thorin has acquired expertise and an excellent knowledge of the diversity of these unique Crus.
